[Humans of GMBA #6] Pimpicha Suethanapornkool - Thailand

1. What do you think about moving from Thailand to Korea? Did you experience any struggles in Korea and how did you overcome them?

Ever since I was a child, if anyone asked me apart from Thailand, which country would I wanted to live in, the answer is simple: South Korea. At first, I don't even know why it had to be this country. It might be because the first novel I fell in love with was translated from Korean. The novel unconsciously drove me into Korean culture and makes me yearn for more. After that, I started to invest myself in the K-pop and K-drama industries. All of this passion finally pushed me to this point, standing here, proud in South Korea. I honestly love every moment spent in this country, be it the convenient transportation, breathtaking landscapes, and lovely classmates. In fact, it was my friends here who guided the Korean-beginner me to many things. Thanks to them, I was able to live my Korean life to its fullest.

Despite my language potential at the moment, I never considered it as some kind of struggle. Instead, it motivates me to learn more as it has always been my goal to speak a third language fluently. I believe learning new languages will widen my perspectives and lead me to doors of various opportunities. With the help and guidance from my native and advanced Korean friends, my language efficiency gradually began to improve too. Another factor that I might consider as a 'basic' 'common' struggle is perhaps, homesickness. I guess this happens to any other students who study abroad. Sometimes, we miss our home country, our family, or even our homeland food (lol). But at least, the advanced technology in this age surprisingly help decrease that homesickness from my mind.

2. How do you come up with creative ideas/stories to write in your novel?

Writing novels has always been in my nature since I was little. Ever since primary school, I started writing short stories, sharing them with my classmates to read. Each story's inspiration sprouted differently depending on my interest at the moment. I’ve always loved reading and watching series, as I felt the stories told through these media always manage to capture my interest and also aid me in widening my perspectives in the world of storytelling. Another strategy I used in creative writing is imagination. I love imagining what sort of world I wanted to live in and the sort of changes I wanted realistically. I’ll always include those small details into my novel through the plotline and characters. Through this, I’ll be able to shape them into real people with real personalities, not the good and bad traits with different likes and dislikes. Sometimes I also like focusing on characters' personalities from series too, such as: what drives them to do this? Etc., as this will sparks some idea for me and pushes me to weave it into a novel.

3. What is your future goal after graduating from Yonsei GMBA?

I’ve always had a future goal even before enrolling in Yonsei GMBA. Nevertheless, Yonsei GMBA was always a path I decided to choose long ago, knowing it would lead me to my goal. As I’ve mentioned before, my passion has always lain in Korea, including in business terms. Ever since my passion sparks that day, I’ve always had a dream to create a business that will connect books from around the world into the same platform without any language barriers. I want people who love reading like me to feel the same way that I felt when I read my first novel in the primary. Thus, enrolling in this MBA program will surely teach me how to form such a business, especially when this university is located in a country that sparks my very first light of creativity and ambition.
