[EVENT] Babfor volunteer activity @ Cheongnyangni

As a GMBA student, mandatory 24 hours of voluntary work should be cleared upon graduation. Babfor, a voluntary activity was introduced to us where we get to prepare ingredients/food and serve the elderly who drop by Babfor Sharing Campaign Headquarters 밥퍼나눔운동본부 for a warm meal.

We got there as early as 8:30am as scheduled. However, due to the weather and distance, it started a bit late. The volunteer activity was divided into 2 parts, one was preparing ingredients and one was serving. Before the activity started, we volunteered to takeover tasks for part 1 (kimchi making, potato peeling, squid cleaning, vegetable cutting, rice cooking etc) and part 2 (rice serving, soup serving, side dish serving, dish washing, food waste dividing etc). We changed into our rubber boots and wore aprons.

Part 1 started around 10am. The ingredients prepared today were meant for tomorrow's meal cooking. By 11am, there was already a line of people outside the centre. We quickly switched into teams for part 2. Lunch was served at 11am. We wore mouth mask, disposable vinyl gloves while serving lunch on a food tray. There were radish kimchi, Mung bean jelly salad, mackerel with radish, rice and soup.

We continue to serve the elderly until 12:30pm until everybody in line finish their lunch. We started to clean up the dishes and cutleries. Around 12:50pm, we finally sat down and had lunch. However, there were so many tasks to do and things to clean, we were given 5 minutes to eat.

After eating, we cleaned up the dining tables and chairs, mopped the floors, washed the dishes and cutleries, scrubbed rice pot, washed trays and trolleys, hang washed gloves and apron. We were all tired but was glad that everything went smoothly. It wasn't an easy task but it was a meaningful event after all.
